Altavoz Fellowship Portfolio — Lowrider Families of Albuquerque

This portfolio gathers selected images from my long-term documentation of Albuquerque’s lowrider community and serves as the visual foundation for my proposed Nick Oza Visual Fellowship project. The work is rooted in years of relationships and focuses on family, craftsmanship, community life, and cultural memory in New Mexico.

Selected Work Sample

For the Nick Oza Visual Fellowship, I propose a one-year documentary photography project focused on the people and families behind Albuquerque’s lowrider culture. Building on my book Seventh and Central: Lowriders, I will photograph 8–12 families and individuals in homes, garages, neighborhoods, cruises, and community gatherings, with an emphasis on intergenerational knowledge, everyday life, and the social world that sustains lowriding beyond the cars themselves. The project will culminate in a community-centered exhibition in Albuquerque and a 40-page zine (150 copies) designed for local distribution, including participants and families.
